I was born in Wales, United Kingdom. My Father is from Bequia in the Grenadines,  he came to Britain and worked as a seaman. He told me that his mother was a Carib and his dad who was a boat builder was of African heritage.

Being extremely proud of my heritage makes me very interested in the history of the Black Caribs. I hope that someone will communicate with me from Seine Bight or even Bequia or St vincent as I am very interested in the the heritage of the Black Caribs and if possible to kow where in Africa the slaves were taken from

Seine Bight is roots to me. My father is from this village but i didn't got the chance to live there. I am presently in Taipei, Taiwan studying Chinese for Business. I am therefore committing myself to contribute to the development of my roots village. If there is anything that i can do from here i am willing to do it.

How did you learn about this Seine Bight Website? searching the internet

Comments:

I am a 46 year old Black Carib American woman.  I was born in New York City.  My mother was born in Stann Creek and my father from Honduras.  They both spoke Garifuna,  but unfortunately did not speak it to myself and my 9 other siblings.  So, we do not speak Garifuna and cannot pass it along to the next generation.  I am so happy to have come upon this website.  I cried reading about my ancestors.  I so want to learn the language.  I loved hearing my parents and relatives speak it.  It is a beautiful language and the history behind it is amazing.  It is a blessing that the Black Caribs never had to endure the travesty of slavery.  We definitely need to remember those who have passed and keep the tradition.

How did you learn about this Seine Bight Website? I was looking for garifuna names and just stumble onto in on the net

Comments:

I am a 29 year old Garifuna woman living in North Carolina in  a small town called Winston Salem.

Now that I have found this site it will get more hits because i will tell everyone I know about it. It is so informative, I learner so much about my culture that I never learned at school or at home.

I am Garifuna and very proud. I was born in Belize City, live in Orange Walk until I was 10 then lived in Succotz until I turned 17 and then move to New York and been living in America ever since. Despite not growing up in Garifuna community I speak Garifuna very well and even write it some. As a child I basically learned to speak garifuna and creole and then Spanish. At home my mom spoke to us only in Garifuna and I am so glad she did. I have 2 sister and a brother and all of us speak it. Most people are impressed because they say that most people our age today do not speak garifuna they actually barely understand it.

There were some word i did not know how to say in Garifuna and this site will definitely help me better speak my language already love so much.

How did you learn about this Seine Bight Website? As i alway look forward to find out about the history of the most wonderful place in the world is was on the net and i just decide to search for seinebight.com and i was more than surprise to see that there was indeed a match to my search.

Comments:

I was raised in  Seine Bight Village where i learnt a lot about my Ancestors and also the history of the Culture "Garifuna". A place filled of local talents and nice peoples being now diverse in Culture i am somewhat impressed of the recent development made by the inhabitats of the village. Seine Bight also know to me as "Paradise, or Zimbabwe" is the best place on planet earth. With the recent changes of the Village i would hope the the creator(s) of this website would could take more recent pictures and display them so that the people of the world can get a clear view of how the village looks now so the message can be sent out that Seine Bight is improving as time goes by. Furthermore I must commend the website designer(s) for doing a great job. Keep it up mein.

Anytime I feel the urge to find out what is going on back home I check out Seine Bight.com. Frankly when I feel homesick I go to the website for a quick reminder and some education! After all the garifuna people hardly have any representation in this cold place called Canada.

How did you learn about this Seine Bight Website? Through a very dear friend - Harry Castillo

I have always wanted to learn about the many cultures that make up the country of Belize. However, my main purpose was to learn as much as possible about the man I plan to spend the rest of my life with. He is of the Garinagu culture, and I wish to give him the type of respect that he deserves. The best way I can do that is to learn as much about his culture as possible.

Your site has provided me with much needed information. I also plan to visit Belize and his people in the near future.

Thank you so much for this site!

My husband and I visited Seine Bight from May 1st to May 4th 2006 We stayed at the Blue Crab Inn, where we met Lynn, the owner, Ernestina and Paulina, her staff members who did all the cooking and cleaning. And of course there was Robin as well, quietly tidying the grounds and smiling warmly every day.  My husband and I fell in love with Seine Bight village. We saw some of the most beautiful people there. Lovely children smiling and waving.  Everyone was so kind. It was very humbling for us to see the simplicity of life in the village, to see the humble aspect of the garinagu people, and yet I deeply respect their way of life, their roots and their tenacity.  Don't miss Seine Bight you will fall inlove with the people there. They are so genuine and wonderful. I can't wait to go back and see my friends again.

Back to The Official Website Of Seine Bight Village

According to MasterFisherman Balbino Palacio, - Seine Bight village was ideal for fishing but the peninsula was not so ideal for farming hence they found it neccesary to cross the lagoon west to the main land for more fertile farming land. They farmed near-by and went as far inland to where it is now George Town (then called Wahaleaf / California).
