How did you learn about this Seine Bight Website? Found it on the internet

Comments:
I first visited Seine Bight in 1962, when I was a Papal Volunteer teaching at Austin High School in Stann Creek. I visited there with two other volunteers and the Catholic priests, Father O'Shea and Father Woods. As I recall, we slept in the hospital, which was new at the time. We usually traveled by the Heron H, a mailboat that took about 4 or 5 hours from Stann Creek, but once we came across from Mango Creek by dory through the Mangrove swamps. That was wonderful! I revisited Seine Bight in March 2004. It had changed so much, as had all of Belize. Thanks for a great website. // Gail Porter Mandell, The people of Seine Bight and SeineBight.Com thank you for your visit and wish you well.

Hello, my name is Moni and I am African-American.  My husband is from Honduras. We have two children, I have always told him to tell our children about his culture.  Me being from America I feel very robbed of my culture.  The only thing that I know is that my ancestors came from Madagascar.  I feel that it is very important to know your culture and where you came from.  I felt so ecstatic when I found your web site.  Now I can show this to my children and they will know their heritage.  Thanks

As a Proud Garifuna from Livingston, Guatemala also know as "Labuga" in my native Garifuna language.  I'm impressed to have seen your site.  It brings me great joy and honor to see and participate as a visitor in your site.  Even though, my home is now in Piscataway, New Jersey, USA.

Keep up the great work.

How did you learn about this Seine Bight Website? through searches on garifuna and st vincent

Comments:

I am a regular visitor to SVG, having Vincentian friends, altho I am from London. My partner is from JA, and our children have just enjoyed their first Vincy trip.

I first wanted to find out about Garifuna after one of my Vincy trips - in 1997, and so in 2000 I retraced their steps from 'Shipping Bay' to the Bay Isles, via Le Ceiba & Trujillo. I spent time in Guatemala, and heard of the Garifuna communities in Belize and in Nicaragua.

I was taken aback by what I saw in SVG - at that time thetre was little recognition of the Garifuna link and I was keen to share my experiences of St Vincent with Hondurans in Utila and on the mainland, as well as my experiences of Garifuna with Vincentians.

When I returned recently I saw a distinct change in St Vincent - their National Heroes Day had as its first hero Chattoyer, and a  Garifuna delegation was warmly received - at last!

I sincerely hope this will continue.

I hope to re settle with my family, in St Vincent, and will probably end up near Grieggs - any thoughts/ experiences or guidance most welcome.

We live in ONE LOVE

I first visited, and fell in love with Seine Bight village and it's people in 1997. The relaxed pace, kind people, great food and an overall feeling of peacefulness in the village made this the greatest destination I have ever visited. Never Change!!

You have a great site, I cannot wait to get home and show this to my son so that he can read this.

My name is Nancy Nunez, I am from Dangriga, Belize my grandparents are Margaret Guerrero & Paul Guerrero the owners of Eden Rose Club in St.Ann Creek, my mother is Eleanor Guerrero and my father is Cassian Nunez the current Mayor in St.Ann Creek.

Keep up the great job, since I currently reside in the U.S I speak to my son everyday about where we are from and our culture and what I just read could'nt put it any better and also taught me some things.  I saw a few of my friends in the pictures.  I felt as if I was at home.

Respectfully,

How did you learn about this Seine Bight Website? Research for graduate school paper, about the influence of culture on childhood.

Comments:

Greetings,

I wanted to send a personal thank you for your incredible website about Seine Bight. Several days ago I knew nothing about your culture and embarked on a journey to research as much as I could for a graduate school paper, about the influence of culture on childhood. After just a few days of searching the Internet and contacting several people, I have become absolutely enthralled by the Garifuna...

Your website led me into areas that I had not explored with other websites, and the information is just wonderful. Thank you for sharing your culture and for allowing others, like me, to learn about such special people.

Sincerely,

Christie Hindbjorgen

I was fortunate to visit Belize last summer, but only a little excursion from a cruise ship. It is such a beautiful country, and in many ways reminds me of my childhood in Florida. I now live in Oklahoma. I will retire in a few years and Belize is on my list of places I am exploring to live when I retire. Everyone I met was lovely. Blessing to you all.

My grandmother is from the island of Roatan.  She migrated to this country in the 1920.  Extraordinary women. We are Garifuna's.

My grandfather is from Jamaica.  My grandmother and grandfather linked up in New Orleans.  My father who was born here.  Went back and purchased property in Jamaica in 1975.  My brothers and I have a profitable small villa vacation resort in Montego Bay called East of Eden, because my father knew his culture.  It is all about Sankofa.  My father took his mother back to Roatan, Honduras in 1967 I believe she was 75.  My father is 75 I and I will be taking him back this year in July. Be Blessed!  Thank you for sharing this enlightening information.

This website is very informative, and the people of Garifuna blood should be proud of their achievement even though it has been struggles, sacrifice and at one point near extinction; a garifuna today must lift his or her head and stand up to be counted and recognize, the leaders must act fast so as to access a census as this is the only way an account could be given and the entire race can receive it's just deserves that has been long overdue.

Great website!

My family is Garinagu ( I often say Garifuna), but I grew up in NYC, and did not know that much about my family's culture until my recent visit to Punta Gorda and Dangriga, Belize.  I found your website to be very educational.

Back to The Official Website Of Seine Bight Village

According to MasterFisherman Balbino Palacio, - Seine Bight village was ideal for fishing but the peninsula was not so ideal for farming hence they found it neccesary to cross the lagoon west to the main land for more fertile farming land. They farmed near-by and went as far inland to where it is now George Town (then called Wahaleaf / California).
